Theon takes Winterfell and has Ser Rodrik executed. Robb dispatches men to remove him while continuing to pursue Talisa. Osha distracts Theon and helps Bran and Rickon escape. In King’s Landing Joffrey gets hit with a cow pie and a riot ensues. Sansa is saved from a horrible fate by the Hound. Arya has to hide her face from Little Finger when he comes to meet Tywin. She is then caught with a message she stole and has to quickly find Jaquen before she is discovered. Jon Snow is left to execute a Wildling prisoner but can’t do it. She escapes and in tracking her down he loses contact with his men. Daenerys does the rounds at Qarth trying to find someone willing to loan her some ships. She returns to Xaro’s home to find her retinue slain and her dragons stolen.

Jon Snow claims there are a thousand men at Castle Black and that sixteen watch posts along the wall are unmanned. Ygritte tests his vows to the Knights Watch by seducing him. Lord Karstark kills the Lannister boys being held at Riverrun as vengeance for his dead sons. Robb executes him and loses half his army as a result. The Hound kills Beric but he comes back to life. Arya is to be offered in exchange for cash to her brother while Gendry decides to stay behind. Jaime's wound is tended to before he tells Brienne how he slayed the King. Stannis apologises to his wife for his infidelity but she knows all about it and is a devout follower of the Lord of Light. Stannis visits his daughter who ignores Davos' treachery to spend time with him. Tyrion negotiates with Olenna to cut down the cost of the Royal wedding. Tywin then informs him that he is to marry Sansa to avoid the Tyrells from claiming her. Cersei will marry Loras. Daenerys encourages the Unsullied to shed their slave names while Sers Jorah and Barristan jockey for position.

Ygritte continues to tease Jon until the Wildlings find them. Theon chases after Bran and Rickon but can’t find them so he turns to torture. Alton Lannister returns from King’s Landing and delivers Cersei’s message to Robb. He is locked in with Jamie who kills him and escapes. Jamie is caught though and Catelyn considers taking his life after several of her men state their desire to do so. Tywin sees through Arya’s act but can’t find the man who tried to kill him. Sansa has her period and Cersei gives her some advice about being a mother. Xaro and the Warlock enact a coup and kill the other members of the thirteen after admitting that they had taken the dragons.

Lannister soldiers slay what remains of the Stark guard and capture Sansa. Arya escapes though with the help of Syrio. Up at the Wall Jon Snow learns of his father's imprisonment. He has bigger problems though when one of the dead bodies he found north of the Wall suddenly comes to life and attacks him. Robb Stark prepares the men of Winterfell for war and has to keep their egos in check. Tyrion and Bronn are captured by the Hill Tribes. He promises them the Vale if they help him return home safely. Sansa begs for mercy for her father and Joffrey agrees if Ned will confess and say that he is the rightful King. Across the Sea Dany asks Drogo to not rape the captured slave women and he agrees.

Dany's child is stillborn and Drogo is a vegetable. She smothers him to death and builds a funeral pyre for him and the Dragons eggs. She then climbs on herself and emerges unscathed with three baby dragons wrapped around her. Joffrey begins his reign with plenty of torture and then forces Sansa to look at her father's head on a pike. Robb Stark is acclaimed King of the North as the men of Winterfell decide that they won't fight for a Baratheon but for themselves instead. Yoren dresses Arya as a boy and shoves her in with the new recruits for the Nights Watch as they head north. Tywin sends Tyrion to be the King's Hand to stop Joffrey from doing more foolish things. Jon Snow decides to ride away and find Robb but Sam and the others stop him and persuade him to return to the Wall. Jeor then leads the men of the Watch north of the Wall to find out what is going on.
