The Simpsons is an animated comedy about a family in the fictional town of Springfield. The family is made up of selfish father Homer, fretting mother Marge, precocious daughter Lisa, rebellious son Bart and silent daughter Maggie. FOX 1989-???

Homer tries to befriend the new security guard at work Wayne. Wayne prefers not to be social but grudgingly agrees to have a beer with him. Snake holds up Moe's at gunpoint and Wayne saves the day. Mr Burns tries to give him an award but Wayne has a flashback to his work as a spy and attacks him. The Simpsons take him in but soon Ukrainian gangsters kidnap Homer to get to Wayne. Ned and Edna will remain a couple.

After yet another Bart prank Principal Skinner is getting chewed out by Superintendent Chalmers. Skinner unexpectedly stands up for himself and forced Chalmers to take charge of Bart's education. Chalmers manages to get Bart interested in Teddy Roosevelt and the other troublesome boys become intrigued too. On a trip to the forest though Nelson is injured and his mother sues Chalmers. Chalmers is fired and Bart decides to fight against this by occupying the school.

They build mechanical toy seals which win the prize. Bart shows one off to Grandpa and Jasper and it gives the old folks some much needed affection.

Krusty is kicked off his own show for being out of date. His agent turns his back on him too and only the Simpson family take pity on him. They introduce him to agent to ageing stars Annie who was actually his first agent. In the 1960s she helped him to become successful and they were lovers. He promptly left her for the big time but she takes him back. After a series of nostalgia theatre shows Krusty is back and lands a new show on a pay cable network. The network don't like Annie though as she is pushy and makes life for their crew miserable. Krusty is asked to choose between her and his new show.

At Christmas time we get a peek into a future year where Lisa and Bart both have children and question their parenting skills. Lisa and Milhouse's daughter Zia is distant and Lisa wants to interfere. Bart's children live with their mother and see him as a deadbeat. They both head home for Christmas and realise that Homer and Marge did a better job than they thought.

Bart films it and soon Homer is a viral sensation. Another rant at a talk show host gets him his own right wing talk show. His trademark tearful tirades soon launches a 'gravyboat' movement that puts him in the position of nominating the next Republican Presidential candidate. He plumps for Ted Nugent but Lisa tries to convince him to relinquish his influence.

Lisa is in court having brought the town to some kind of trouble and tells her story. On a trip to the mall she realised how few friends she had just as Homer bought a new computer. She gets chatting to children in a chat room and realises that it's easier to be friends with people online than in person. She creates "SpringFace" and soon everyone in town is addicted. The success of the site doesn't actually help her loneliness and causes a host of problems for Springfield.

At a town meeting Moe is mocked for having no friends. The suggestion that his bar rag is his best friend seems like a cheap joke but turns out to be the truth. The bar rag then narrates its surprising origins as a medieval tapestry down to today. Meanwhile Bart also publicly mocks Milhouse who won't forgive him.

Marge and Homer sneak back into Springfield for one night but are found and leave claiming the Outlands is their new home now. Soon the residents of Springfield come calling to see just how great this new town is.

Homer has actually bought a thoughtful gift for Marge. When Bart's gift (of a rabbit) inadvertently destroys his, Homer locks Bart in the rabbit cage. The town seems impressed with his art and so he continues to make images mocking Homer and others which draw critical acclaim.

Homer takes Bart fishing after screwing his co-workers over and being awarded a day off by Mr Burns. The next morning he is shocked to find that he has wet the bed. Homer makes things right with his colleagues but the bed wetting continues. Marge runs into Dr Frink who happens to have created a device which will allow them to enter Homer's dreams and search for a solution to his problem. The first dream sees Homer skiing and then the Simpson family have to enter one another's dreams to buy time to figure out what is really bothering Homer.

Mr Burns announces the annual company physical and Homer tries to go a weekend without drinking. When the results come in Burns is displeased at the high insurance costs he has to pay. Smithers points out that robot employees are now ready to deploy. So everyone at the plant loses their job except for Homer. He is lonely and bored though and begins tampering with his new co-workers circuitry.

He begins watching an old TV show “Stranded” (Lost) and soon stops running and gets wrapped up in the mysteries.

Homer complains loudly about how irritating family vacations are but the cruise defeats all his arguments. Bart is thrilled with his fun schedule and Lisa is ushered into a group of elite children. Homer and Marge are happier than ever as they spend quality time together. As the end of the week approaches Bart decides to fake a warning message about a deadly virus so that the vacation will never end.

Instead he heads to Moe’s where a hallucination of Cain tries to teach him how to be a better husband. Bart watches a documentary about how unhealthy Krusty Burger food is. He decides to over-feed Nelson to avoid getting bullied.

As he is wheeled away to hospital he reveals that he and Edna are married. They married in secret to avoid the attention of others. Edna now begins to take an interest in Rod and Todd’s education. She enrols them in Springfield Elementary and Ned frets about their future.
