How I Met Your Mother is a comedy about Ted Mosby, a New York architect who wants to get married and start a family. Future Ted is telling the story of how he met their mother and we see his past story set in the present day and the adventures he has with friends Marshall, Lily, Barney and Robin. CBS 2005-???

Marshall is suspicious and when they get sued they confess that they fabricated their involvement. When Doug confronts them about their lies Ted punches him and gets flattened. Marshall knocks Doug out. Lily tries to teach her kindergarteners that fighting is wrong with little success.

Marshall and Lily have begun to curtail some of their silly romantic rituals but suddenly realise how much they value them. Lily rushes to find some beer for Marshall while he gets Robin to drive him to the airport. Eventually he gets the college girls band to play Old Lang Syne when Lily arrives so that they can get back the kiss they missed at New Years Eve.

Barney offers to help create a more flamboyant reel for her and eventually it gets her a new job. In the meantime she gives up hope after being rejected from hosting the lottery draw. Her search for work leads to Marshall, Lily and Ted revisiting their own resumes and the embarrassing things on them.

The gang follow Barney to a house outside of Manhattan because he was behaving strangely. They discover that he has hired two actors to play his wife and son to fool his mother. Barney’s cover is blown when Ted gets on too well with his “wife.” Robin bonds with Grant, the boy playing Barney’s son and Lily tells Marshall she hates his mother. In the end Barney’s mother is relieved to know the truth and tells Barney to go for it if he falls for someone real.

As Barney slowly suffers he makes a counter bet that Ted has to complete a list of things he is too young to do. Meanwhile Lily gets Marshall to coach her kindergarten basketball team but he cares too much about winning for her tastes.

Ted hires an assistant to help start his new company but keeps procrastinating. His assistant PJ hooks up with Robin causing friction within the apartment \office. Barney is so angry about this that he confesses his love for Robin to Marshall. To avoid being fired Marshall decides to become “Sports Guy” around the office and run a fantasy baseball league. He finds it stressful and ends up hiring PJ as a paralegal to do the hard work for him.

As Ted is out of work Tony tries to find him a job to make things right. Ted eventually tells Tony that he doesn’t miss Stella and that she did a horrible thing to him. Tony ends up breaking up with Stella. She comes to see Ted and they pick up Barney from a New Jersey jail. She encourages Ted to keep waiting for the right woman. Stella and Tony get back together and move to California. Meanwhile Robin and Marshall brag about the speeding tickets they have managed to get out of. Barney never has and sees this as a challenge. He is arrested after he accumulates a large number of tickets in only a few days.

Barney asks Ted’s permission to pursue Robin and she overhears it. She turns to Lily and Marshall who recommend she uses “The Mosby” and tells Barney that she loves him. She does and it drives him away until Lily admits what is going on. Barney and Robin admit their feelings for one another, fight with their fear of commitment and end up making out. Meanwhile Ted is stuck in doors trying to design the “Rib Town” restaurant. Marshall has planned a surprise birthday party up on the roof but Ted won’t come up. Marshall continues in his efforts to jump onto the roof of the next building. Ted discovers Lily’s goats and ends up in a fight with it.
