and analysis of what makes them
good, bad, irritating and enlightening.

Friends is a sit com about three guys and three girls living in New York who become best friends. Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe and Joey deal with life's adversities together. NBC 1994-2004

Episode 22 - TOW Chandler's Dad

29 March 2012

Synopsis: Monica convinces Chandler to go to Las Vegas and invite his estranged father to the wedding. Phoebe encourages Joey to try on women’s underwear. Ross and Rachel take out Monica’s Porsche and both get pulled over for breaking the speed limit.

The Good: There are some nice moments in both the supporting stories as Rachel flirts her way out of trouble and Joey finishes the episode on a high with his attempt to get out of an awkward situation. Meanwhile the Chandler’s father story is nicely handled and emotionally logical. The admission that his father had tried to contact him in the last few years makes it seem less of a thrown together idea.

The Bad: Amidst the good story there are still the needless attempts to be funny, which really aren’t. Jokes about gay people, Ross’ driving, Chandler being under the thumb and so on. They are all cheap and jar against any good dialogue the writers create. The other two stories are essentially filler anyway.

Best Line: (J) “Hey hi.”
(Woman) “Hi.”
(J) “You know you look familiar, do I know you from somewhere?”
(W) “I don’t think so.”
(J) “Maybe it’s because I’m on television. I’m an actor on Day’s of Our Lives.”
(W) “Wow, really?”
(Waitress) “Four fifty please.”
(J) “Oh, let me get this. (Pulls out wallet and pair of knickers) These are for you.”

Best Friend: Chandler
