Episode 24 - TOW Ross' Wedding (2)

29 March 2012

Synopsis: Rachel heads to London to tell Ross she loves him. Meanwhile Chandler and Monica hook up and Ross tries to keep the peace between his battling parents and in-laws.

The Good: There is a huge amount to like about this episode. Hugh Laurie and Tom Conti are fantastic guest stars and both add lots of humour. The Gellars are always fun and Jennifer Saunders is ok. Rachel pulls off her emotional confrontation with Ross really well and he is excellent trying to keep everyone happy. Chandler’s failed rehearsal speech is another highlight. Chandler and Monica getting together is the big story though and it is a shocking and crowd pleasing twist.  The cliff-hanger of Ross saying Rachel’s name is especially clever. Discerning viewers know that Emily won’t become a regular cast member. So how do the writers set up their eventual break-up without Ross being horrible and jilting her? This is such a plausible and hard to predict finish that it makes you really keen to see what will happen next. Which is of course what a cliff-hanger should do.

The Bad: With celebrities everywhere, to an extent this feels like a big laugh with everyone just having fun. At times this takes you out of the moment.

Best Line: (Mr Waltham to Jack Gellar as they walk away from an angry Ross) “I could kill you with my thumb you know.”

Best Friend: Ross
