Episode 8 - TOW Chandler In A Box

29 March 2012

Synopsis: Joey is so angry at Chandler for kissing Kathy that he plans on leaving, but agrees to stay if Chandler will spend 6 hours in a box. Monica meets Richard’s son and invites him to thanksgiving dinner where Ross accuses Rachel of having no sentiment because she exchanged gifts that he gave her.

The Good: Three decent plots and thanksgiving drives them all together nicely. Chandler’s punishment flowing from Joey losing all their furniture is a nice touch. And as silly as it sounds, it is a good plot development. Joey couldn’t reasonably just forgive Chandler for such a betrayal, so this punishment is fitting and helps get them over it in a short space of time. Chandler is funny throughout and the happy ending works well. There are good jokes to be had with Monica and her inappropriate date with Richard’s son and she has a nice moment telling off the other friends for judging her. There’s also nothing wrong with reminding us that Ross and Rachel matter so much to each other.

The Bad: Monica is too sensible a character to really date her ex-boyfriend’s son isn’t she? It’s only a minor quibble as they resolve that issue well enough. Rather than act like he did in earlier seasons, Ross is very petty and spits one-liner insults at Rachel. It’s another piece of evidence for the show slowly subsiding to the level of less good sit coms.

Best Line: (M) “See he’s nice right?”
(P) “Yeah but Monica do you really want to be in a relationship where you can actually use the phrase - That’s not how your Dad used to do it.”

Best Friend: Chandler
