Episode 17 - TOW Eddie Moves In

29 March 2012

Synopsis: Ross is always at Monica’s apartment and is driving her crazy. To move on from missing Joey, Chandler gets a new roommate. Phoebe is given the chance to make a music video of “Smelly Cat” but the producers don’t use her voice.

The Good: This is an episode of solid characterisation. Now that Ross is with Rachel he would naturally spend more time at Monica’s place. Her admission of childhood hatred is entirely in keeping with her character and the best moment in the episode is when she allows Ross to get his way at the end. Its strong writing to acknowledge the status quo will stay, as it usually does in real life. As has become commonplace the writers use the analogy that Chandler and Joey were in a relationship as they both want to go back to the way things were. Phoebe has the odd fun moment in her story.

The Bad: This show lacks a spark; there is nothing very funny about any of the stories. Phoebe’s story doesn’t come to a conclusion at all which makes it seem pointless. Joey and Chandler are not very funny acting like a couple, perhaps because the analogy is so obvious. Good characters, but not enough humour.

Best Line: (Ro – on phone) “Hello, hi, yeah no she’s right here, hold on (beep) Hi Tony, can I call you back, that’s my sister’s boyfriend.”
(M) “Give me that.”
(Ro) “Ok.”
(M) “Hey sweetie, before I forget, did I leave my diaphragm at your place? Hi Mom.”

Best Friend: Monica
